Meeting notes without a bot

Press record, have the call, press stop. The notes are written while you get on with something else, and the audio never leaves the Mac.

How it works

Choose Record meeting from the menu bar, or let Speakhold offer when it notices an app using the microphone. It records two streams: your microphone, and what the Mac is playing, through a Core Audio process tap. No virtual audio driver, no bot in the meeting. The pill shows a red dot and the elapsed time. Type your own notes in the meeting window as things happen; tap the dictation chord once to mark a moment; ask for the last two minutes if you drifted. When the call app lets go of the microphone, Speakhold counts down and stops on its own, or you press stop.

What you get

One markdown file per meeting in ~/Documents/Speakhold Meetings or a folder you choose: the date and length, who spoke, then Summary, Decisions, Action items and Open questions, then the full transcript with timestamps, labelled with your name and Them, with the far-side voices told apart as Speaker 1, 2, 3 if you turn that on. The meeting is named from your calendar if it matches. A notification opens the file.

Which model writes the notes

Claude Code on your Mac

If Claude Code is installed, the notes go through it under your own Claude plan. No API key, no API bill. A 30-minute call comes back in about twenty seconds.

Your own Claude key

Add a key under Settings and the whole transcript is read through the API. Only the transcript text is sent, never audio.

Apple Intelligence

With neither, the on-device model writes the notes in parts. Fine for a short call, weak on a long one, and the file says so.

Privacy

Audio is written to a temporary file while the call runs, transcribed on the Neural Engine, and deleted once the notes are written. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose the Claude engine, and then only the transcript text. There is no account and no server. Check your local consent rules before recording other people.
